CAMERA LANGUAGE GLOSSARY
Decoding the Process

HANDHELD
Camera is handheld with an optically stabilized lens. This allows for in-the-action imagery, but can lead to lost moments if you are looking for long takes. This is the most mobile of options and is great for fast moving set ups and social media b-roll.

MONOPOD
This single pole camera support allows for long takes in static angles, and allows for much faster switching of positions. The footage between positions is not as strong. Great for sitting in a theatre seat and capturing live performance, or for catching the right angle for a speech at a party.

TRIPOD
This is a locked-off position, where an operator can focus on the story telling of framing. Not all venues allow for a tripod as they can be an emergency exit obstruction.

GIMBAL
This system is for "floating" a camera around. Great for stylized content where motion is key to storytelling.

SLIDER
This system is a dolly on rails that goes back and forth autonomously. These sliders are great for giving a sense of movement to unpersoned cameras.

JIB / CRANE
A Crane adds a lot of value in perspective and movement. It takes several personnel to load in, crew, and load out.

DRONE
A remote controlled flying camera! Just be aware that not EVERYWHERE lets you fly - otherwise you'd be seeing these all over the place. Great for large crowds, location establishing shots, in or outdoors!

ZOOM LENS
This is a camera lens that can zoom in or out in order to properly frame a subject no matter the distance. We have zoom lenses that are as wide as 11mm and as long as 600mm (measurements referring to the field of view).

PRIME LENS
These lenses are optimized at specific focal lengths (how zoomed in the picture is), and are the choice option for more cinematic looks - which includes things like subject separation from background, and more pleasing characteristics in the overall image.
